Drivers of enforcement agency in Merida report “hunt” and confiscation of cars

MÉRIDA.- Drivers of digital transportation applications reported in social media groups an alleged "hunt" carried out by elements of the Yucatan Transportation Agency . Elements of the Secretariat of Public Security are in charge of retaining the vehicles.

It was even reported that state government workers would set a trap for the drivers to inspect them. A user named Ricardo requests a service, pays for it, and directs the driver to where the transport inspectors are.
According to user Diego Can López , who identified himself as an Indriver driver, inspectors asked him for a series of requirements, including a supposed sticker indicating that he is an enforcement driver. In his case, the driver said that his vehicle was seized by SSP elements and taken by crane to the impound lot.
According to him, the incident occurred in the Dolores Otero neighborhood. The user reported that the inspectors would travel on board a white Aveo car with superimposed license plates ZAP983E and that they had already carried out said operation in different parts of the city.

In the drivers' groups, photographs of other alleged vehicle seizures were published, one in the park of the Alemán colony, in front of the church and another, at the doors of the Gran Chapur Norte, in the Colonias Circuit.

There are versions that claim that the operation would be mainly against Indriver drivers . However, there are others that maintain that the reviews apply to drivers of any application, who are required to comply with the following requirements.
- Driver license
- Current Yucatan license plates and circulation card
- Insurance policy for platform
- Kit
- Extinguisher
It should be remembered that in December 2023, the ATY confirmed the arrests of vehicles from the InDriver platform , "because it operates outside the regulatory framework, in addition to not having the minimum safety standards, putting the integrity of users at risk."
On that occasion, the agency announced that it has an Inspection Department that maintains constant operation . “Drivers and their vehicles are checked for proper documentation, and zero tolerance is implemented for vehicles that do not have it or do not comply with the corresponding guidelines in accordance with the law.”
Regarding today's reports, the ATY was asked for its position, and it reported that it "will release the information when it is available."
According to the ATY, in the case of digital platforms , fines range from 25 to 500 UMAS , in addition to sending the vehicle to the vehicle impound. This implies sanctions between 2,828.5 and 56,570 pesos.
For those who commit any of the above-mentioned violations, the process before the ATY consists of:
- Go to the offices of the agency to appear before the court regarding the facts, making use of the guarantee of a hearing and presentation of evidence.
- Wait for the qualification and resolution of the infraction ticket issued, because if it is positive, the respective economic sanction determined in the Transportation Regulations is imposed, which is notified to them so that they can go and make the payment, to later document the ownership of the vehicle.
- At the end of this process, the agency issues a release letter so that the owner of the vehicle involved can continue to take action before the Public Security Secretariat ( SSP ) for its release.
